Do I need to own Soundminer to run SMDB Companion?
No. SMDB Compainion is designed to work best in conjunction with Soundminer databases. However, if you do not own Soundminer, SMDB Companion still offers the ability to scan audio files directly.
How do I use SMDB Companion to find duplicate files?
After installing SMDB Companion, simply point it to your Soundminer database or Audio File Folders, and it will scan for duplicate audio files based on specific matching algorithms. You can then review and remove the duplicates as needed.
Will SMDB Companion find all my duplicates?
SMDB Companion is designed to help you weed out the majority of your duplicates, but there are many ways to define what a duplicate is. You can choose different algorithms and set different preferences to help you find what you are looking for. If we're being completely honest, SMDB Companion may not be perfect, but it will definitely get you there.
How does SMDB Companion decide which files to remove?
SMDB Companion looks to a set of rules to decide which file to keep in a set of duplicates. These rules are fully customizable by the user and the user is strongly encouraged to adjust them based on their specific needs and organization of their library.
Can I tell SMDB Companion which files I want to remove myself?
Yes. After SMDB Companion has scanned your database or audio files, you can review the results and manually adjust which files to remove. Of course, we recommend working with the Preservation Priority list to help the program make the right decisions for you.
Is SMDB Companion compatible with Windows?

Is there a Trial Version?
Yes. SMDB Compainion allows you to fully scan for duplicates upon download. It will tell you how many it finds, but if you want to alter the results, or remove them, you will need to purchase a license.

SMDB Companion has the ability to remove files from your open Soundminer Database, but it is recommended to keep the default setting of creating a new database of thinned records. Always back up your databases before running SMDB Companion.
